The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Oil line is marketed towards oily, acne-prone skin. They recently repackaged everything, so I don’t know if this means it’s all reformulated or what, but by golly, it sure is pretty to look at, right? </sarcasm>
Newly repackaged Tea Tree Oil line from The Body Shop
So, from the stuff I’ve tried* I think the line is overall decent. Nothing “OMG A-MA-ZIIING!”, and for the price I honestly think you could get some nicer, cheaper stuff from the drugstore.
- Tea Tree Oil Mattifying Mosturizer looks to be discontinued (or disguised). I got mine from the Travel set they had back in January, and at 1.69 US fl. oz it’s still here, through almost daily use. It doesn’t make my face matte all day, but it does help reduce some shine. It’s like a gel, and I don’t need to use much to cover my face. The tea tree oil does help clear my skin, though: after about a month of using it, my skin was pretty clear compared to before. It can and does sting, so if you’re sensitive you might want to skip this.
- Face Wash– eek! They have TWO now? The one I used (from the set) was alright– it didn’t really clean, but it did help reduce oil, if that makes sense… I’d skip over it.
- Toner that was my favorite. It was better than my generic with hazel at cleaning the skin and helping reduce oil, but it did have a very drying affect on my skin with regular use. I’d buy this again.
- Face Mask I’m on the fence about this one. When I first got it (along with my Seaweed mask, from the same store), I was in love. The thick, green mousse applies thick and feels really tingly on the face, like it’s working. It never dried me out or irritated my skin, but as for really drying out blemishes it was ok. Not great, not bad. Felt great, smelled nice, and kids like looking it, but for the price I heard there are better, cheaper alternatives. Also, I’m almost done with my jar (getting near the bottom) and it doesn’t seem to be as effective as it was when I first got it. Either my skin got used to its biweekly meetings or it just lost its effectiveness.
- Bar soap This is another one they seemed to have lost in the move to new packaging… the soap is glycerine based and cost me the same as the other bar soaps. I got it originally because they said it could be used for both face and body, and when packing my locker I didn’t want to have to pack two things for the shower. As a soap it’s alright: better than some bar soaps, like the other The Body Shop bar soaps since it leaves the face with a nice, tingly clean feeling, but it still has the feeling that all bar soaps I’ve tried have: feeling of residual scum. Eww! I still like it, but I wouldn’t buy it again if I could.
- Blotting Sheets Again, from the travel set. Don’t buy. They’re just green-colored tissues.

Ugh, I tried the Tea Tree Concealer before it was repackaged/reformulated or whatever they did to it. It only came in three shades, didn’t look very good on my skin, was an odd consistency… just an overall underwhelming product.
Good to know. Have you tried the Mario Badescu Drying Cream? It’s kind of like a concealer. It’s creamy and smells a little like sulphur, but it does help tone down redness & make the pimple look less gross when used under make-up.
